What is Air?
*there is a layer of air around Earth
*The air is made up of different gases that have no color or smell and are important to Earth's living things:
(a) nitrogen- the largest part of air
- plants take in nitrogen through their roots
(b) oxygen- the next largest - living things need oxygen to live
- your body needs oxygen to use the fuel in the food we eat
(c) carbon dioxide- helps hold heat close to Earth
- has no color or odor
- people and animals give off carbon dioxide when they breathe
- plants use carbon dioxide to make food and give off oxygen
(d) water - over 3/4 of the Earth's surface is made of water
